Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Bike Club is a new programme that is trying to build cycling into the daily lives of young people and their families. Cycling will be used as a tool for engagement in learning and healthy lifestyles with 10-20 year olds to challenge them to do something new.
It could include off-road training, cycle touring & expeditions, creative projects, organising a cycling festival or even BMX ballet. To put it in short, Bike Club is whatever young people want it to be!
It intends to compliment existing cycling schemes such as Bike It (run by Sustrans), Bikeability cycle training and Go-Ride by offering a tailored Bike Club to suit each groups' needs. Bike Club will work alongside local and national initiatives such as Change4Life, extended services, sustainable and active travel schemes as well as PE and sports strategies for young people.
Anyone working with this age group in an out of school or after school club should get in touch for more information. Additionally, anyone who is interested in setting up a Bike Club can get support, ideas and help with planning from the Bristol regional Bike Club officer.
Grants are available if you'd like to set up a Bike Club activity for young people. Application forms can be downloaded from the Bike Club website.
