Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Part of Cycling City's 'youth engagement' brief includes developing opportunities for young people to use their bicycles in structured, formalised settings.
In Bristol, the city council is investigating the construction of two stone-surfaced looped tracks for BMXs, stunt bikes and mountain bikes in Eastville Park and at Cumberland Basin.
These will be similar to the facilities in Longwell Green, Stockwood and Lawrence Weston.
The "pump tracks" will be designed to allow cyclists to ride around the undulating courses by using jumps and momentum to move along.
Proposals for the Cumberland Basin track include approximately 40 features such as corners, "rollers" and jumps. An artist's impression of the track is shown below:

A formal public consultation for both these sites was published on Bristol City Council's planning portal during Spring 2011.
A frequently asked questions document has been compiled to answer questions about the Eastville Park site. This is available below.
