Cycle trip planner

Transport Direct

Better By Bike's trip planner is provided by the national transport and travel site Transport Direct. You can try it out by entering your details in the box on the right hand side.

The full trip planner allows users to choose between:

  • quick routes, which use the quickest route possible
  • quiet routes, which try and avoid busy roads and junctions
  • recreational routes, which aim to use traffic free paths and cycle lanes as much as possible.

There are plans for the trip planner to give users more options such as choosing to avoid hills. All four councils in the West of England area worked with Transport Direct to provide this service and we'd really appreciate your feedback. Contact us to share your thoughts.

Not getting the results you expect?

There are several other trip planners available, each using different base map layers to plot routes.

  • CycleStreets is run on a not-for-profit basis and uses open source software to allow users to contribute to its mapping base.
  • Fancy walking it? If so, walkit.com is the site for you.
  • For longer journeys which you may wish to combine with public transport the 'door-to-door' option on Transport Direct may be helpful (although cycling is not fully integrated at present).
