Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Bristol is developing a network of Cycle Champions (an employee who promotes cycling) to help to bring the benefits of cycling to employers in the city.
We're working closely with over 50 businesses and we've already signed up a Cycle Champion in the most of them.
The Cycle Champion will promote cycling within their business, being the first port of call for questions and queries, and they will act as the contact between their organisation and Bristol City Council.
Our experience shows that this doesn't take much time, just a few minutes chat from someone who knows is usually enough to convince people who are already considering cycling. Most people just want to know what kind of bike to get and the best route. If you're interested in becomming a Cycle Champion, drop us a line.
Bristol City Council provides the support for cycle champions. This includes a package of measures to help to get people cycling, and providing it in an easy to understand and positive way.
A starter pack of information is provided and is updated at regular intervals. But the most important aspect is that this is a dynamic, two way relationship. We don't tell you what to do, we listen and offer solutions.
The resources list below tells you what is available to help a Cycle Champion, and check out the Cycle Champions resource page.
There are already a number of businesses that are signed up as Cycle Champions, ranging from larger employers such as Bristol Zoo, to smaller ones such as Ridingleaze Medical Centre.
If you want to become a Cycle Champion business, e-mail city.transport@bristol.gov.uk and we will arrange to come over and chat to you in more detail.
